River Description |
|
With a gradient twice that of the Colorado River
in Grand Canyon, and situated in the country's second deepest canyon,
the Main Salmon River of Idaho, (see map) is one America's premier
whitewater rafting rivers. For 84 miles, the Main Salmon flows through
the wilderness backcountry, past abandoned mines, homesteads, Indian
sites and the dwellings of river people who care for the historical
sites of those who homesteaded in the canyon years ago.
The river corridor is punctuated with Class III
and IV rapids and provides plenty of action for families of all ages,
capabilities, and interests. For the most adventurous, there are the
individual inflatable kayaks that allow a person to solo through the
roaring rapids, while for the less daring, 4-man paddle rafts are
provided for participation in a team effort. For simple comfort and
relaxation, nothing beats the 18' self-bailing rafts, controlled by your
professional guide.
